GChat is pleased to release Visichat 3.1.0 for all active license holders. The customers wishing to download the update, should log in with their GChat account into the Customers Portal, and proceed to the 'My Licenses' section of the management screen.
The link to download the update will appear for every license with an active updates subscription. If your updates subscription has expired, all you need to do to get your hands on the latest and greatest of Visichat is to renew it, which can be done directly from the license summary screen.
Visichat 3.1.0 brings a number of new features, alongside further bug fixes and system improvements. The major addition in this update is the user group room access control. This feature replaces the VIP only functionality to better serve needs of admins who employ custom user groups in their chat. The new controls are more flexible and will let you filter out one or more user groups from a particular room without affecting the others. The traditional VIP-only experience can be achieved, if desired, by choosing to grant the premium user group sole access to a particular room with VIP features.
User group permissions now have a toggle for public messaging. This is a new global setting that can be used to temporarily or permanently take away a user group's right to post text messages to the public chat in any room it is enabled in. Groups without this permission will still be able to view the public chat activity, but will not be able to get involved.
The public message permission further enhances the moderation powers available in your chat, and can serve as means of a mild ban in cases where you don't wish to completely remove the offender. It can also be handy on special occasions when only a limited number of speakers need to command the attention of the chat community as a whole.
Customisation in the admin panel has been further tweaked to let webmasters set titles for the chat skins they upload. The skins already in the chat library can be titled retrospectively as well, making file management just that little bit easier. What's even more exciting though, is the new ability to change wallpaper for every room in your chat. Custom room backgrounds can be gif, png, jpg, or swf files. They are scaled automatically to fit your room dimensions, and are ideal for setting a unique visual ambiance. And on the client side, the ban power was supplemented with a Flash cookie ban measure - thwarting efforts of chatters exploiting the browser and Flash caches to temporarily get back into the chatroom, before the action against them took effect.
While you download, check out the Visichat demo of the update in action; which also has a special surprise in store for the fans of our Chat Robot plugin. Whether you're upgrading, updating or installing from scratch, don't forget to skim through the official Visichat manual. For the full list of bug fixes and improvements in this release, please see the Visichat Project Portal. And don't forget to keep in touch with the team about this and future updates through social media, our GChat forum or the GChat blog.
Hosted chat clients will be pleased to know that the upgrade process on their hosted chat has been completed and they can take advantage of the new features of Visichat 3.0.3 from today. The new demo is already live. So why not have a look at the new admin features while you wait? Head to the Visichat demo page and log in to the control panel with the provided demo details.
Visichat 3.0.3 brings with itself a number of anticipated additions to its established set of tools, namely:
- Room access control by user group.
- Public chat access control by user group.
- Add custom title per chat skin for extra flexibility for your personalised designs.
User group permissions for accessing rooms replace the VIP only access feature. Now it is possible to give each user group unique access rights, reflecting their contribution to the community or chat role. Managing custom premium groups is easier as well. By using these new permissions and room features in tandem, a webmaster can tailor-fit the chatroom experience to the chatter, depending on what they like to do and how they prefer to communicate in chat.
The new optional restrictions on public chat access give greater moderation leeway to the admin. They are useful for vetting new accounts and chat guests, as a form of mild suspension, or for special occasions and events. These permissions are more flexible than simply disabling the public chat for a time, since a webmaster can still let certain groups of members use public chat for others to see but not comment.
As always, GChat is staying on top of the incoming bug reports and this update has all the latest fixes to the issues reported up to now. The full list of resolved items can be found at the Visichat Project Portal.
For license holders, Visichat 3.0.3 update will be packaged and ready for download on 6 May. Your admin panel dashboard will receive the appropriate notification when the new software becomes available. Stay tuned and check back on the day.
Having completed the biggest server side revamp to date in Visichat 3, GChat is pleased to announce that development has started on groundbreaking front-end redesign for the next software update milestone. The next major release will feature a brand new chat layout and much requested support for ActionScript 3.0.
As promised, this is the second phase of development of the software. Visichat 3 tackled the server side upgrades, new architecture design, security enhancements, redesign of the admin panel, and stability. While from the next major release the focus will shift towards interface improvements, bringing out the best of the software for your chatters to enjoy in an easy to access way, enhancing usability and modernising the look of the chat client.

How do you take advantage of all this goodness? Just make sure you are running the latest version of Flash player when the update comes out.
Of course, other minor tweaks and fixes will be included as always. The work is moving along nicely, and although this update is being allocated a longer development period due to major interface work, the team expects it to be available by the end of the year. The overall update schedule and roadmap won't be significantly affected. This is in keeping with the GChat development promise - more updates, more often. The latest information about proposed or already implemented bug quashes and new improvements can be found at Visichat Project Portal.
The software will be refreshed both in terms of looks and compatibilities with current popular technologies. The demo for the next major update will go live on the Visichat product page nearer the release date, and we'll let you know it is there so you won't miss out. Stay tuned.

As with the previous update, 3.0.2 package is easy to deploy for customers running 3.0 or 3.0.1 versions of the software. Instruction for the process will be added to the official wiki nearer the roll out date. Please check back on GChat Wiki in due time.
Video Chat 3.0.1 is now available to download for current license holders. The package has already been uploaded to the Customers Portal and is ready to install. This is mainly a hot-fix release covering issues brought to the attention of the development team since release of version 3.0.
The exact details of what has been resolved in the new release can be found at GChat Bug Tracking website. The update process is simpler compared to the jump from Visichat 2.6 to Video Chat 3.0, and an update guide is already available at the official GChat Wiki on how to update video chat.
Alongside bug fixes and performance improvements, a number of new features have also been added to the admin panel. It's now possible to add new admin panel users through a dedicated menu, to ban hosts by using wildcards, to arrange payments via USAePay gateway, and to add reserved chat usernames, which cannot be taken at registration.
The Wiki documentation has been updated to reflect the new features. Please enjoy the update and let us know what you think at GChat Video Chat Forums; the dedicated sub-forum for Video Chat 3.x.
GChat is pleased to announce the planned release of its next Video Chat update to license holders on February 28. This is primarily a hotfix patch. All acknowledged bugs identified from release date have received an appropriate fix. The patch also features a couple of new features, which will be revealed nearer the time. The 3.0.1 update will be available to download via the Customers Portal to all licensees with a current updates subscription. Webmasters will be pleased to know that if they're already running Video Chat 3.0, the update installation is very straightforward and the steps have been simplified compared to the major version upgrade from Visichat 2.6 to Video Chat 3.0.
GChat has also deployed a new bug tracking system - Jira - for its bug tracking portal at GChat Bug Tracking. It's easier to navigate than the old MantisBT solution and customers will be able to see quickly which issues have been highlighted, what has been fixed and what's coming in the next Video Chat versions. Video Chat 3.0 now has a dedicated Video Chat Bug Tracking sub-forum, where potential problems can be brought to the attention of the development team. This should make it easier to report bugs while avoiding duplication of reports and letting GChat staff carry out additional software tests before the individual items are logged on the bug tracking portal.
In other news, hosted chats with 100 and more users will receive a specialised statistics plugin, designed to graph peak chat traffic over time. Chat Statistics plugin will be activated automatically for these chats on release and is available to preview at Video Chat Admin Panel. A feature summary is also available from the Video Chat Statistics product page. Chat Statistics is based on HTML5, works out of the box and can be set to displaying tracking for only specific user groups. It's a great feature to have! Especially for a webmaster who wants to know how his chat has been doing while he was away.
Following several months of active development, testing and an impressive hosted chat release, Video Chat 3.0 is ready for retail. The software is available to download from the Customers Portal for all current GChat license holders with an active updates subscription. Video Chat 3.0 can now also be ordered from its product page.
The new software brings webmasters the dynamic capabilities of the re-imagined admin panel, greater voice and video performance, easy-to-use localisation options and much, much more. Video Chat 3.0 succeeds the market leading Visichat 2.6 solution as the top GChat product for all your chatting needs. All official licensees will receive an update notification through their control panel, as of today. Webmasters wishing to upgrade from today will be given clear instructions about their updates subscriptions status, how to renew it if it expired or if there is a need to purchase the latest package.
Video Chat 3.0 introduces a radically new underlying database structure from its predecessor, supports Red5 1.0 and implements strong encryption measures, for the best possible chat experience which is smooth and secure. It comes with its own integrated data migration tool to help you transfer your old chat data. Naturally, the update procedure has a few more steps them before; but an official installation and upgrade guide is available to help you along at GChat Wiki, as well as the standard GChat free installation guarantee.
It is a huge milestone for GChat and its software, and the company would like to thank everyone who made this release possible. Sales and technical teams are standing by to assist with any enquiries and new orders. So don't hesitate and leap into the brave new world of Video Chat 3.0 today!
GChat is pleased to announce the immediate availability of database integration capabilities for its hosted chat customers. Following the earlier news release on 22 January 2013, the development team was successful in rapidly delivering their original concept in an easy-to-use and deploy integration module for all popular CMSs. The module is very flexible and will grow to cover more popular community software engines on demand. This bold development removes the last few remaining limits in enjoying the very best of GChat hosting, support and software whilst running a thriving on-line community, blog or website.
Database integration could be a powerful and secure bridge between your existing community and the real-time hosted chat service. Your community members can now enjoy a brilliant, fully-managed GChat hosted chat service, whilst re-using their existing account details found in your community database. The software will take care of managing the details of matching people up to their new chat identities, keeping profiles in sync and allowing for a single stage login. Chatters can just kick back and enjoy their time online.
The service is free with all hosted chat options currently available. The technical team will begin taking customer integration requests via the Customers Portal as of today. It's also strongly advised that you submit your request from the account your chat is registered with. This is to avoid any potential delay in processing your request. GChat technical team will work closely with you during the integration process to ensure the script is configured to best suit your needs. If you aren't sure if your CMS or database is supported, please enquire via the Customers Portal and a member of staff will be happy to advise you about the details of integration, including expanding GChat integration module support to best accommodate your software configuration.
GChat is proud to announce an upgrade to its Video Chat hosting service. Starting from today, not only will the company's hosted chat customers receive the latest version 3.0 of the software as standard, they will also benefit from a growing exclusive selection of official GChat plugins. All current plugins integrate seamlessly into the new admin panel and are very easy to get started with. Experienced chat owners can get up and running with new extensions in minutes.
At present, customers already on or wishing to subscribe to one of the company's hosted plans, for fifty or more users, will benefit. All GChat hosted chat owners with fifty users or more will be able to request a free installation of the Chat Robot plugin; whilst any hosted chats with one hundred or more users will qualify for the free Trivia Bot and Chat Robot bundle at no extra cost.
Trivia Bot is the latest plugin from the GChat development team, and more information about it can be found on its feature page. This is on top of an already solid foundation of expert free technical support, free upgrades and free DDoS protection. Please note, that Visichat 2.6 or earlier is not compatible with Video Chat 3.0 plugins, so a full upgrade is required for hosted chats still running older software. It is however possible to request the upgrade to Video Chat 3.0 and plugins at the same time.
GChat hosted chat service will also receive much sought after CMS integration options in the medium to long term, following popular demand. This will remove the need for chat owners, who want greater levels of customisation and integration, to run a separate server just for their CMS needs. In the coming months, GChat will strive to deliver exceptional integration potential in an easy to access, fully-managed package. The work has begun on adding vBulletin support to all current hosted plans, with more to come afterwards.
The team is also actively working on patching in improvements to the core Video Chat 3.0 package in anticipation of its imminent commercial release on Monday, 4 February. This includes the latest stability and performance tweaks identified from the earlier hosted chat deployment programme, which is still ongoing. Heading farther into 2013, new development efforts will focus on adding additional payment gateways, refreshing the interface and simplifying the updates and patching process for chat administrators, letting license holders benefits from the hosted chat work the company does and vice versa.
GChat is pleased to announce the launch of Video Chat 3.0. As promised, following the demo testing period, the new software is available from today for all hosted chat customers. This release integrates improvements, fixes and modifications added following the feedback from the demo. Webmasters will enjoy all round performance improvements, new admin panel and dynamic features. GChat hosted chat customers will receive the upgrade free of charge. If you are a hosted customer, please submit an upgrade request via the Customers Portal to be placed on the upgrade queue.
Please keep in mind that Video Chat 3.0 has undergone radical internal changes, including the underlying database structure, and it is therefore not downgrade-able back to Video Chat(formerly Visichat) 2.x, once installed. Customers running chats based on the 2.x series may keep using the older software for as long as they like. However, 2.x has reached its end of life stage, and all future updates and feature improvements will be targeted at the new software line. For architectural reasons, improvements in version 3.0 and later cannot be back-ported to earlier releases.
The technical team will set aside three weeks specifically for the upgrade cycle. Hosted customers must also be aware that the new Video Chat ships with the PayPal payment gateway by default. This is intentional. The development team will consider other payment options by popular demand. Customers are welcome to recommend a payment gateway for inclusion through the Customers Portal, and if approved, it will be added free of charge for everyone. This special arrangement will end on the 4 February. After Monday, 4 February, Video Chat 3.0 will be available to buy from gchat.com and will be uploaded to download from the Customers Portal for non-hosted customers with a valid license and current updates subscription.
When Video Chat 3.0 goes on sale after 4 February, it will initially be available in two editions:
Standard - core program + Flash source codes + six months of free updates - $299;
Professional - Standard Edition features + bundled technical support + one year of free updates - $499;
Additional details about the new packaging structure and pricing will follow nearer the time.
Best regards,
GChat Team
The already popular Video Chat 3 demo just got better. Remember when we told you that the more flexible application framework in 3.0 was specifically designed to support rapid plugin development? Well, that wasn't just a bit of bravado on our developers' end. In fact the new application is so easy to work with, the development team has already put together a proof-of-concept plugin for you to try in the video chat demo.
The plugin is a chat robot (bot) and although the development on it is still ongoing, it can already answer simple queries. Give it a try. The chat robot will try to respond to messages with its name in them. Admittedly, it isn't very smart yet, but it is getting there. As always, your feedback is welcome. To see how the plugin will look from the admin's end, log into the demo's admin panel and look under Plugins>Chat Robot.
The chat bot will become GChat's first commercial chat plugin, following popular demand for this sort of functionality. It will go on sale through our website some time after Video Chat 3 is released in January. For now, please enjoy its preview in the demo.
GChat is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the public test demo for GChat Video Chat 3.0. It gives you a unique opportunity to take the new software for a spin, ask questions and assist the development team by reporting any software quirks that you may notice during the beta. The new software will officially launch on 14 January 2013 and will be made available to our hosted chat customers. It will be uploaded to the customers portal and go on sale on our website shortly afterwards. There are plenty of new features to get excited about and some incoming changes you should keep in mind.
Major new features in this software release are custom user groups, dynamic language manipulation and interchangeable chat skins. The control panel
has been redesigned as a true global menu bar with integrated user search function - allowing you to get more done in less time than before. Chat administrators can now manage the user avatar library and the smiley file directly from here, too. You'll also be pleased to see a full-featured HTML mail editor, much sought after moderated hand raise option and other nice little touches and improvements throughout. Oh, and there's a preview function for pretty much everything from banners to games, making it easy to experiment with a variety of features!
The live demo can be accessed via the following link: GChat Video Chat Demo.
But don't worry, whilst you're getting used to all this new functionality, you won't have to teach your users new tricks just yet.The standard chat skin remains as it was in version 2.6.0, for the time being. We decided to postpone its redesign to speed up the new software release and give you more time to adjust to the new features, before introducing more change into the system. The new skin will ship with the first few updates to version 3.0. Furthermore, the PHP source code files will now come in encrypted form, while the admin functions that used to be exposed through them will have alternatives integrated in the control panel interface - giving you more functionality, ease-of-access and extra chat security at the same time.
Please also be aware that from version 3.0, GChat packaging and pricing structure will be updated to better reflect the structure of our business and software. GChat Video Chat 3.0 software will initially be offered in the following editions:
Standard - everything we currently offer, plus Flash source codes for customisation, new 3.0 features and 6 months free updates service subscription.
Professional - everything in the Standard Edition, plus 1 year free technical support and 6 months free updates service subscription.
Prices will start at $299 for new customers. However, our existing clients will receive the latest version of the Standard Edition free of charge to show our appreciation of their continued loyalty and support, which made this software release possible.
The Professional Edition is primarily set to address the needs of business clients who may need specialised custom modules, such as market trading helpers, analysis tools, news feeders and tickers, etc, and an additional level of support. As new extensions become available, GChat will be able to offer a truly flexible and tailored experience in this regard to SMEs and enterprising individuals.
It's set to be a busy new year, and you can look forward to the new official chat skin, plenty of software modules and faster update turnaround times, from version 3.0 onwards. We hope you have a pleasant festive season and look forward to your feedback on the demo. Keep in touch via our email, forums, blog or social media outlets.
Best wishes,
GChat Team
Effective from today, 5 December, GChat would like to announce the new name of its key product. The software title is changing from Visichat to GChat Video Chat. We're re-branding our most popular video conferencing software to better represent the diversification and growth it has experienced. Acknowledging the history and success of Visichat, we're pleased to say that more energy and intelligence will be dedicated to taking GChat Video Chat forward into the future.
The change is due to a significant planned reinvention of the next software release. We intend to further enhance and develop GChat Video Chat as one of our leading brands. All documentation, links, references, our homepage, and other company materials will gradually be updated, to build up awareness and strengthen the new brand.
We'll continue to honour our customer and technical support agreements for older software versions. Your current contracts won't be affected by the change. All current Visichat licenses will automatically become valid GChat Video Chat licenses. Our licensing structure and arrangements remain the same, for the time being. GChat is still the original trademark and copyright holder, and licensing authority, for Visichat and its components.

GChat is pleased to announce that from today, all our hosted chat customers will receive a comprehensive 10 Gbps DDoS protection service with their package, at no extra cost!
DDoS stands for a distributed denial of service attack. It is a particularly vicious and illegal means of taking down a site or service by flooding it with a high rate of bogus access requests. Such an attack is usually achieved through a distributed network of compromised PCs, posing a significant threat to flash chats and personal online communities, and even large corporate infrastructures.
GChat felt that our hosted chat clients would benefit greatly from the extra peace of mind afforded by reliable and comprehensive protection. This new feature will ensure that in case of an attack, your service will not be interrupted. The customer will not need to install or configure anything themselves, as we will take care of everything.
